Richard W. Daane, 81, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Oostburg, surrounded by family, on Friday afternoon, February 10, 2023.

Rich was born October 23, 1941, in Sheboygan, the son of Willard and Janet (Theune) Daane. He grew up in Oostburg, graduating from Oostburg High School in 1959. After high school, he went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army National Guard for 2 years.

On February 27, 1965, he was united in marriage with Judy Jankow at Zion Lutheran Church at Louis Corners in Kiel.

Rich farmed with his father and uncle Warren Thuene, and was a partner in Daane’s Siding & Roofing through the late 1960’s. In 1970’s, he became partner with his friend Ed Riesterer and retired in 2005.

Rich was a member of Bethel OPC in Oostburg, where he had served as President of the Trustees, Deacon and assisted with funerals for many years. He served as President and Vice President of the Pine Haven Board of Directors for 5 years. Rich played for the Redwings Football team from 1962-1966.

Rich was an avid golfer, golfing with Judy on many different courses, golf groups, and church golf outings. He enjoyed league bowling, hunting, fishing, and coaching basketball. Later in retirement, he enjoyed his weekly cards with friends. Rich loved watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at all their activities.

Rich is survived by his wife of 58 years Judy and their children: Julie (Carl) TeBeest, Patti (Craig) Farrell and Mike (Cathy) Daane; grandchildren: Kim (Justin) Schuessler, Amanda (Kyle) Bornbach, Emily (Josh) Zastrow, Holly (Caleb) Williams, Haley (Blake Barry) Farrell, Megan Farrell and Sean (Allison) Daane; great-grandchildren: Layla and Hayden Farrell, Logan and Brady Schuessler, Vivian Bornbach and Hadlee and Miles Zastrow; sister Barb Van Sluys; brother Ron (Sue) Daane; sister-in-law Gloria (Gary) Edler; other relatives and many friends.

Rich was preceded by his parents and parents-in-law, Harvey and Virginia Jankow.

Funeral Services will be held at Bethel OPC in Oostburg on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at 2:00pm. If unable to attend, all are welcome to join via livestream by visiting wenig.live/RichDaane.

The family will receive visitors at church from 12:00pm until the time of service. He will be laid to rest at Oostburg Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Bethel OPC.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Dave Veldhorst, Oostburg Fire Department first responders, and officers who responded.
