Richard Ten Haken

Richard Lee Ten Haken, 80, of Hingham, had a glorious homegoing to his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at his home.

Rich was born on March 3, 1941, to Louis and Marie (Westerbeke) Ten Haken in Sheboygan. He attended Beaver Creek and Oostburg High School. Rich was united in marriage to Karen Lammers on November 4, 1961, at Hingham Reformed Church and together they enjoyed over 60 wonderful years of marriage.

Rich was a dedicated dairy farmer for many years. He additionally worked at Hingham Feed Mill, Hopeman’s Inc., and Karrel’s Dairy Equipment. During recent years, he found great joy in working as a fieldman with Cedar Valley Cheese where he established many meaningful relationships over the past 20 years.

Rich was man of sincere faith, a member of Hingham Church, and held many Bible studies in his and Karen’s home over the years. Rich and Karen loved creating many memories and friendships during their many years wintering in Florida. Above all, Rich enjoyed spending cherished time with his family-especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rich is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Julie (Bill) Ver Velde of Hingham, Patty (Brendan) Donohue of Fairfield, CT, Kathy (John) Hughes of Random Lake; son, Daniel Ten Haken of Waldo; grandchildren, Bill (Morgan) Ver Velde, Annalise (Jared) Jobes, Kathryn (Eric) Albrecht, Kaila Ten Haken, Nicole Ten Haken, Megan (Nicholas) Breuch, Mandy (Ben) Levy, Carter Donohue; great-grandchildren, Brynn and Collin Ver Velde, Jack and Graham Jobes, Madelynn Albrecht, Sterling VonRueden, Noah and Rowen Levy; sister, Marilyn Hansen; sister-in-law, Marilyn (Roger) Rauwerdink, brothers-in-law, Robert (Jenny) Lammers, and Stan (Ann) Buyze.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Louis & Marie Ten Haken; brother, Roland (Betty) Ten Haken; sister-in-law, Judy Buyze; brother-in-law, Delmar Hansen; stepmother, Hazel (Lemkuil) Ten Haken; stepsiblings, LaMae Lemkuil, Patricia (Pete) Zurmond, Judy "Putter" (Chuck) Bartelt, and Richard "Chip" (Lenore) Lemkuil.

A service to celebrate Rich’s life will be held at Hingham Church on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at 11:00 am with his grandson, Pastor Bill Ver Velde, officiating. Burial will take place at Hingham Cemetery.

Family and friends may greet the family at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Monday, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and again at church on Tuesday, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am.

Memorial funds can be given in Rich’s name for Oostburg Christian School and two missionaries that Rich found great significance in supporting - Rich & Karen Brown and Gary & Lisa Stottlemyer with Ethnos 360.
