Roger Lee TeStroete, 77, of Oostburg in the Town of Holland, passed away unexpectedly, on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.
Roger was born on March 15, 1949, to Howard and Ruth (Veldboom) TeStroete. He had many fond memories of his younger years growing up on his family farm west of Cedar Grove. Through his gift of storytelling, he enjoyed sharing his memories. He graduated from Cedar Grove-Belgium High School in 1967. During high school, Roger started working at Oostburg Concrete and then transitioned into working for the Town of Holland as the Road Maintenance Supervisor for more than 20 years until his retirement. He took great pride in his role with the Town of Holland.
On November 16, 1973, Roger was united in marriage to Darlene Koppelmann at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sheboygan.
Roger was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, where he served as elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher, as well as several committees over the years. Roger also found much enjoyment in public service and politics. He served as a supervisor on the Town of Holland Board for 12 years and 40 consecutive years on the Sheboygan County Board, serving as Chairman for 4 years. Roger was involved with many projects and initiatives for Sheboygan County, with his most treasured being facilitating the development of the Amsterdam Dunes. Roger was a charter and active member of the Amsterdam Lions Club since 1979 . He more recently became a member of the Cedar Grove Cemetery Board, a testament to his love of history and genealogy. Roger enjoyed woodworking, gardening, and spending time maintaining their property at home. He enjoyed watching sports – the Brewers, Badgers, and Packers, but most especially his children and grandchildren.
Roger is survived by his wife of 52 years, Darlene; daughters, Ann (Ryan) Schneider, Linda TeStroete; grandchildren: Matthew (Liliana) Schneider, Elizabeth Schneider; sisters, Judy (Dan) Lorier, and Diane (Jim) Shufflebotham; brothers-in-law, Glenn Koehler, Mark Koppelmann; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Milford and LaVerne Koppelmann; and sister-in-law, Diane Koehler.
A funeral service to celebrate Roger’s life will be held at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove on Monday, October 19, 2026, at 11:00am. Visitation will be held at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Sunday, October 18 from 3:00-6:00pm and again at church on Monday from 10:00am until the time of service. He will be laid to rest at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
