Ruth Grosshuesch

Ruth Grosshuesch, 91, of Oostburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at Pine Haven Christian Communities – Giddings Avenue.

Ruth was born on April 25, 1931, to Rev. Elmer and Hilda (Stuckmann) Jaberg in Linton, Indiana. Her childhood was spent in Linton, and then Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She graduated from Sheboygan North High School in 1949 and went on to Mission House (Lakeland College) graduating in 1954. Ruth met Ed Grosshuesch at Mission House and they were married August 25, 1954, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.

Ed and Ruth lived throughout Wisconsin including Random Lake, Wisconsin Dells, Racine, and Oostburg. Ruth taught high school English and was a Reading Specialist for 20 years at Cedar Grove-Belgium School District.  She was a member of PEO Chapter CX.  Ruth and Ed retired in Bella Vista, Arkansas, August of 1992, where they resided for 25 years.  Upon Ed’s death in 2017, Ruth moved to Germantown, Tennessee to be close to her daughter, followed by a return to Oostburg, where she lived at Pine Haven Christian Community.

Over the course of her life, Ruth was actively involved in serving others.  She devoted her time and talents to the churches of which she was a member, as the first female elder at Oostburg Presbyterian Church, Presbyterian Women leader, Pastor Nominating Committee member, participant in the choir, Shepherd Group leader, and Sunday School teacher.  She graciously opened their homes to entertain colleagues and friends. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren will always cherish the many ways she lavished her attention making each one feel loved and special.

Ruth was classy, but not pretentious; gentle, but tough enough to handle life’s challenges; humble, but firm in her faith.  Ruth truly cared more about others than herself.  Her family and friends were the beneficiaries of her unselfish life.

Ruth is survived by her three children: Jon (Beth) Grosshuesch of Oostburg, WI; Jay (Jill) Grosshuesch of Plymouth, WI and JoEllyn (David) Slott of Germantown, TN; 7 grandchildren, David (Melissa) Grosshuesch; Kimberly (Keith) Allard; Paul Grosshuesch; Matthew Slott; Craig (Alexandria) Grosshuesch; Alison (Grant) Robinson and Kelly Grosshuesch; and 6 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; parents; brothers, Vernon Jaberg and Gene Jaberg.
