Shirley Brecht

Shirley (Brasier) Brecht, 93, of Sheboygan Falls passed away peacefully on March 23, 2023. Shirley was born on August 23, 1929, in Loyal, Wisconsin to the late Gerald and Eva Brasier.

She married Jerome Brecht, Sr. on July 8, 1949. Early in their marriage, they moved around Wisconsin several times before settling in De Pere in 1959. After 57 years of marriage, Jerome predeceased her on May 5, 2008. Shortly thereafter Shirley moved to Sheboygan Falls to be closer to her son Jerome, Jr. It could be said that Shirley’s main occupation was being a mother, grandmother, and wife. She was actively involved in her children’s lives being both a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader among other things.

Shirley always regretted dropping out of school due to illness but was proud to get her G.E.D. in her 50s. Shirley and Jerome traveled for many years making it to much of the United States, especially numerous historical sites. They also enjoyed spending time ‘up north’ at the ‘shack’ where Shirley could often be found renovating the cabin with the unwilling assistance of her children. She relished the time she spent outdoors hunting, fishing, camping or simply being in the woods.

Shirley will be remembered for her love of laughter and enjoyment of a good prank. She was known for her ability to talk, joke and make friends with everyone she met.

While at Pine Haven, she enjoyed helping others by doing such things as sewing storage pockets for wheelchairs or replacing broken zippers.

Shirley is survived by her children Jerome Brecht, Jr, Barbara (Timothy) Hockers, and Susan (Eric) Batchelor as well as daughter-in-law Sandi Brecht. She is further survived by 13 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Jerome, son Frank, sister Ardyth, brothers Darwin and Gerald, Jr. as well as numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

A memorial service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at Wenig Funeral Home, 711 Broadway in Sheboygan Falls on Thursday, March 30, 2023, at 3:00pm. Burial will take place at St. Anthony Cemetery in Loyal at a later date.

Relatives and friends may greet the family on Thursday, from 1:00 until time of service.
