Shirley A. VerVelde, 77, of Oostburg, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice. She is now in the arms of her Lord and Savior.
Shirley was born on September 27, 1948, to Isaac and Dorothy (Nyenhuis) Theune. She graduated from Oostburg High School in 1966.
Shirley was united in marriage to Richard VerVelde on July 1, 1967.
Shirley enjoyed tatting, fishing, gardening, bowling, and playing board games and card games. She loved to cook and bake and delivered numerous meals to shut ins over the years.
Shirley was a member of Bethel Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Oostburg, where she served on the funeral luncheon committee for numerous years. She coordinated the yearly Sunday School picnic for over 20 years and volunteered for Love Inc. for 12 years.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Richard; children, Sherri (Dirk) Roerdink and Brett (Lisa) VerVelde; grandchildren, Justin (Amanda) Roerdink, Samantha (Tommy) Stecker, Andrea Garrison; five great-grandchildren; siblings: Robert (Karen) Theune, Doris (Thomas) Triphan, Diane (Larry) Dana; siblings-in-law, Allan (Althea) VerVelde, Donna (Bob) Caljouw. She is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, infant great-grandchild, and sister-in-law, Mary (David) Klug.
A memorial service to celebrate Shirley’s life will be held at Bethel OPC in Oostburg on Friday, December 19, 2025, at 2:00pm. Visitation will be at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Thursday from 4:00pm-7:00pm and again at church on Friday from 1:00pm until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are appreciated in Shirley’s name to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic in Sheboygan.
