Susan E. Swart, 80, of Sheboygan Falls, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 20, at Sharon Richardson Hospice.
She was born March 18th, 1945, and grew up in Sheboygan. Susan graduated with the Sheboygan South High School Class of 1963, the first class to complete all four years at the new school. After graduation, she began her career as a clerk at H.C. Prange Co.
On August 29, 1964, Susan married the love of her life, Gerald Swart, at Hingham Reformed Church. The couple first made their home in Minneapolis, MN, before moving to Fond du Lac, where they spent four years and welcomed the beginning of their family. They eventually settled in Sheboygan Falls, building a home where they lived for many decades and created countless memories together. Susan began her career as a secretary at Waldo Grade School before becoming a reading specialist at both the Lightfoot School and Sheboygan Falls Elementary.
Susan had a gift for music and shared her talent by playing the viola with the Sheboygan Symphony for many years, as well as at weddings and special occasions. Her creativity extended to making stuffed animals for charity, and her family and friends will always remember her wonderful baking. She especially enjoyed card games, where her competitive spirit often shone through. And her family will never forget her sweet tooth. She was famous for picking the M&Ms out of the trail mix and leaving the rest for her husband.
A woman full of energy, Susan was always on the move. Whether at home in Sheboygan Falls or spending winters in Mesa, AZ at Valle Del Oro, she began each morning with a walk (usually well before most people were awake). She stayed active with pickleball (a game even her grandchildren couldn’t beat her at) and pool volleyball at noon.
Service to others was central to Susan’s life. She faithfully volunteered with the Sheboygan Court House, Sheboygan Falls Food Pantry, Sharon Richardson Hospice, Meals on Wheels, and at various events at Valle Del Oro. She carried her servant’s heart with her wherever she went, always ready to lend a hand and brighten someone’s day.
Susan is survived by her husband of 61 years, Gerald Swart; her daughters Kristine (Henry) Fritsch of Sheboygan Falls and Julia Unger of West Allis; and her grandchildren, Elizabeth Fritsch of Racine, Jonathan Fritsch of Sheboygan Falls, and Jacob Unger of Waukesha. She is further survived by her sister Judy (Neil) Jensema of Sheboygan Falls; her in-laws Ralph Heideman of Hingham, Bonnie (John) Peter of Brandon, FL, David (Barbara) Swart of Rochester, MN, Carla Swart of Sioux Falls, SD, and Joan Swart of Hingham; as well as many dear nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Roland and Erma Mueller; and her in-laws Robert Swart, Philip Swart, and Miriam Heideman.
Susan’s faith guided her throughout her life, and her family takes comfort in knowing she now rests in the loving arms of her Savior.
Her family would like to say thank you to the wonderful nurses at Sharon Richardson Hospice. We appreciate you taking such amazing care of her during her last few days.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, September 26, 2025, at First Reformed Church in Sheboygan Falls with Pastor Brad Veenendaal officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday from 9:00am until the time of service. She will be laid to rest at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association in Susan's name.
