Wendy Jo Yurk, age 58, of Sheboygan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at St. Luke's Hospital in Milwaukee, with her loving husband, Thom, by her side.
Wendy was born April 13, 1967, the daughter of Allen and Velma (Dulmes) Pakkebier. Born and raised in the Sheboygan area, Wendy was a graduate of Sheboygan South High School. She dedicated an astonishing 41 years to the iconic City Bakery, which led to her becoming the store manager. She was a familiar and friendly face to countless customers and colleagues throughout her long tenure.
On October 21, 1989 she was united in marriage with Thomas Yurk at St. Dominics Church in Sheboygan. The couple shared over 35 years together filled with adventures and laughter.
A devoted member of St. John's United Church of Christ in Sheboygan, Wendy and her husband were instrumental in starting the church's puppet ministry. They thoroughly enjoyed their many performances during church services, bringing joy and messages of faith to the congregation. For over 10 years, Wendy also taught Sunday School to 4th and 5th grade students.
Wendy's greatest joy came from her family, especially her two beloved grandchildren, Aubrey and Silas. She cherished their daily visits, frequent sleepovers, and their camping trips, affectionately known as "Grandma time."
For 15 years, Wendy greatly enjoyed spending time at their seasonal camper, creating lasting memories with family and friends. She also looked forward to her "10 o'clock talk" gatherings at “The Ho”, where she shared laughter and kept many of her children's secrets from her husband.
Wendy is survived by her husband of 35 years, Thom “Thomass”. She is further survived by her bonus parents, Tom and Toby Mersberger; her children: Justin (Hailey) Yurk, Chad (Kami) Yurk and Carrie (Matt) Darrow; her grandchildren, Aubrey and Silas Yurk; her aunts: Verna Dulmes, Bev Dulmes, Marilyn (Jerry) Blanke and Phyllis Neumann; her sister, Wanda (Brian) Zurmond; her brother, Wayne (Sherri) Pakkebier; her mother-in-law, Marge Yurk; her sisters- and brothers-in-law: Chris (Rick) Flood, Dennis (Shelley) Yurk, Pam (Mark) Richter, Amy (Dan) Kiedrowski, Rosa Chavez, Elena Weinfurter, Diana (Sean) McMillan; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
Wendy was preceded in death by her parents Allen and Velma, parents-in-law Fred and Patricia Yurk, infant nephew Kyle Pakkebier.
A celebration of Wendy’s life will be held at St. John's United Church of Christ, 1248 Lincoln Ave in Sheboygan on Saturday, June 7th at 1:00PM. The service, including a puppet performance, will be led by Pastor Judine Duerwaechter. All are welcome to view a livestream of the service here . The family will receive visitors at the church on Saturday from 11:00 am until the service at 1:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. John’s UCC Mother’s Cupboard.
