Carolyn Jane Kappers, 86 of Oostburg, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Pine Haven Christian Home – Giddings Avenue.

Carolyn was born on November 29, 1934 to LaVerne and Gertrude (DeBruine) Stokdyk. She attended Whittier Grade School and graduated from Waldo High School in 1953. She was united in marriage to Lowell Kappers on November 1, 1957 at Hingham Reformed Church.

Carolyn was a member of First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove, where she served as a 1st grade Sunday school teacher for 25 years. At church she was also a part of Mary Esther Circle, flower committee, First family, and visiting shut-ins. She was also a member of Wide Awakes 4H for many years. Carolyn was a cub scout leader when her boys were young. She was employed at Dairy Herd Improvement Association as a milk tester for 5 years, Dutch Crust Bakery for 20 years, and Oostburg Bakery. Carolyn also volunteered at Good as New shop.

Carolyn loved sewing, embroidery, baking, gardening, puzzles, playing games with her grandchildren, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed helping with her children’s schoolwork, hobbies, and activities. She loved being a wife, mom, grandma, and great grandma more than anything.

Carolyn is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Lowell Kappers; daughter, Sharon Kappers, of Coppell, TX; sons, Kevin Kappers and Wendell (Elaine) Kappers both of Oostburg; grandchildren, Joshua (Jessie) Kappers, Taylor (significant other Codie Keller) Kappers, Allison (Bradyn) Otte, Alex Kappers; great-grandchildren, Josh, Bradlie, and Ellis. She is further survived by her sister, Janet Sand; brother-in-law, Virgil (Marion) Mullikin; sister-in-law, Dianne Stokdyk; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents, sister, Eleanor Mullikin; brothers, Giles, Jay, Wayne, and Mark Stokdyk.

A funeral service for Carolyn will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at First Reformed Church in Cedar Grove at 11:00 am with Rev. Bradford officiating. Burial will take place at Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may greet the family at Wenig Funeral Home in Oostburg on Monday, July 12th from 4:00 to 7:00 pm and at church on Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service.

Memorials are established in Carolyn’s name for Cedar Grove First Responders and Oostburg Christian School Resource Room.
