Gilbert Sass

Gilbert H. Sass, of Sheboygan Falls, passed away Friday, May 21, 2021 at Pine Haven Christian Home, his home of the last year. He was 89 years old.

Gilbert was born June 17, 1931 in the town of Sheboygan Falls to Herbert and Viola (nee Krause) Sass. He graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1949 and went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1952-1960, and was stationed in Korea for nearly a year.

On October 4, 1958, he was united in marriage to Ruth Schroeder at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Sheboygan.

Gib worked in the shipping department at Kohler Company for 33 years, retiring in 1993, and was a proud member of the Kohler Quarter Century Club. Prior, he had worked at Richardson Brothers Furniture from 1949-1960.

A lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls, where he had served on the financial board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, bus trips throughout the United States and a good Manhattan.

Gib is survived by his wife Ruth and their children: Timothy (Colleen) Sass of the town of Sheboygan, Lynda (David) Koepsel of Sheboygan Falls and Jeffrey (Debra) Sass of Fredonia. He is further survived by grandchildren: Lori (Brian) Kaufman, Marc (Kendal) Sass, Samantha (Lucas) Lambrecht and Rebecca (Joe) Block; great-grandchildren Layton Kaufman, Olivia Sass and one on the way; sisters-in-law Pat Schroeder of Sheboygan Falls and Lois (Jim) Voigt of Surrey, BC, Canada; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Melvin (Joyce) Sass and brother-in-law Donald Schroeder.

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00PM on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sheboygan Falls with Pastor Kyle Backhaus officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church on Tuesday from 10:00AM-12:00PM.  He will be laid to rest at Sheboygan Falls Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pine Haven Covenant Home or Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
