Harlan "Bud" Obbink

Harlan “Bud” Obbink, 82, of Oostburg, met his Savior on Wednesday, March 17, 2021.

Bud was born to Harry and Henrietta (Simmelink) Obbink on May 23, 1938 in Sheboygan.

Bud was united in marriage to Marjorie Kappers on January 17, 1959 at First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg. He was employed at Mercury Marine for over 40 years and made many friendships along the way.

Bud was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as deacon and trustee. He enjoyed being a part of the Men’s Saturday morning Bible Study, Sunday nights at Culvers, and participating in other fellowship activities with his church family.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing, Wednesday morning men’s card group, walks around town with friends, and joining the breakfast group at Judi’s in the mornings. In retirement, Bud and Marge enjoyed traveling around the country through many road trips and bus trips with friends. The highlights of their many trips were visits to see their grandchildren in Florida and Seattle.

Bud is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marge; daughter, Mary Jo (Tim) Nyenhuis; grandchildren, Hope (Michael) VanderPloeg, Ryan (Taylor) Nyenhuis; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Obbink and Minnie Dykstra; and brother-in-law, John (Charlotte) Kappers. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Bud was preceded in death by his brothers, Leon (Ruth) Obbink and Wesley Obbink; brother-in-law, Willard Dykstra; and sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Carl) Huibregtse and Janet (Howard) TeBeest.

A private family funeral service to celebrate Bud’s life will be held. All are welcome to join via livestream on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at 11:00 am by visiting www.wenig.live/BudObbink .

Memorials are appreciated in memory of Bud to First Presbyterian Church in Oostburg, Pine Haven Christian Communities, and the Alzheimer’s Association.
