James VerGowe

James H. VerGowe, age 78, passed away Thursday evening, March 18, 2021 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.

James was born September 30, 1942 in Sheboygan, the son of Jesse and Alma (Ludens) VerGowe. He attended school in Oostburg, and went on to work at Georgia Pacific for 42 years as a forklift operator.

James was united in marriage with Joan Sanders in 1964, and the couple raised two children together, Heidi and Jeremy. On January 29, 1993, he was united in marriage with Dianne (nee Mentink) Dulmes, graciously accepting her family as his own.

A longtime member of Gibbsville Reformed Church, James was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, fastpitch, snowmobiling, working on the family farm and making maple syrup. Above all, he loved spending time with his precious family and grandkids, especially during their Sunday night family suppers.

James is survived by his wife Dianne; children Heidi VerGowe and Jeremy VerGowe; step-children: Kevin (Shelly) Dulmes, Eric Dulmes and Shelly (Daniel) Mullikin. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Cody (fiancé Katie Wade) and Brett (special friend Brittany Teunissen) Mullikin, Jessica (Dylan) Heimerl, Jacob (Shannon), Zac (special friend Sarah Gulke), Chase and Levi Dulmes; sister Judy (Philip) Lobes, brother-in-law Ed Krenke, mother-in-law Jean Mentink, brothers-in-law Wendell (Joan) Mentink and Phil (Faye) Mentink; sisters-in-law Donna Dortman, Jan (Rick) Heinen, Vicki Mentink and Jan Mentink; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Caroline Krenke, father-in-law George Mentink and brothers-in-law Wayne Mentink and John Dortman.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at 2:00PM on Thursday, March 25, 2021 at Gibbsville Reformed Church, N3245 State Road 32 in Sheboygan Falls. All are welcome to join a livestream of the service at wenig.live/James VerGowe . The family will receive visitors at the church on Thursday from 1:00-2:00PM.  He will be laid to rest at Hingham Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in James’ name to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice.
