Jeanne Chambers

Jeanne Antoinette Chambers, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2022, at Rocky Knoll Health Care Center in Plymouth. Jeanne was born on September 14, 1933 to the late Wenzel J. and Marian (Nemetz) Cabalek of Manitowoc. She was 88 at the time of her death. Jeanne was a graduate of Manitowoc Lincoln High School, and attended UW Madison.

On October 15, 1954, Jeanne married the late John Bredesen. The couple lived in Sheboygan Falls until John’s death on December 15, 1969. During that time, she held leadership positions in a number of local civic and social organizations including the Jaycettes, Christian Mothers and Homemakers groups, the Women’s Club, and the Campfire Girls Bluebirds program, all while providing a home for six foster children.

On August 14, 1971, Jeanne married Rod Chambers, her husband of 48 years until his death in February 2020. The couple spent the majority of their lives together living and working in the Sheboygan area, later retiring to Summerfield, FL for 13 years. The two returned to the Sheboygan area in 2017 and lived in Sheboygan Falls until health issues necessitated their move to Rocky Knoll.

From 1973-1985, Jeanne served as Secretary to the mayor of Sheboygan, Dick Suscha, where she supported his efforts to improve and beautify the city. She was most proud of the mayor’s success in redeveloping the Sheboygan riverfront area and laying the groundwork for what later became the South Pier District. Jeanne later served as Office Manager for the Wisconsin School Bus Association until her retirement in 2003.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Wenzel and Marian Cabalek, an infant son Jimmy, first husband John Bredesen, step-son Jay Chambers, husband Rod Chambers, and daughter-in-law Lindsy Chambers.

Jeanne is survived by a sister, Lois Sixel, son, Jerry (Mary) Bredesen, step daughters Lori (Dick) Weinhold, Jayne (Rodney) Dragan, and Marsha (James) Bauer, and daughter in law, Trudy Chambers; her grandchildren Nichole Bredesen, Melissa (Brandon) Lis, Tyler Chambers, Zach Chambers, Austin (Toni) Chambers, Mason Chambers, Deanna Dragan, Danielle (Dwight) Frazier, Sam and Lindsay Bauer; great grandchildren, Anthony, Pressley, Nolan, and Henry Lis, Owen and Gabriel Hildebrand, Carson and Charlotte Chambers, Ella and Isabelle Chambers, and Leon Frazier.

Friends and family are welcome to join the family for a Celebration of Life gathering on Sunday, June 12, 2022 from 1-5 PM at Al & Al's Steinhaus, 1502 S. 12th St. in Sheboygan.  Wenig Funeral home in Sheboygan Falls is handling the arrangements.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the staff of Rocky Knoll Health Care Center for the loving care they provided to Jeanne. She often said how grateful she was for their kindness and friendship.
