Mary Hopeman

June 25, 1945 — April 8, 2022

Hingham

Mary M. Hopeman, 76, of Hingham, passed away April 8, 2022, at her home.

Mary was born on June 25, 1945, to Ellsworth and Ruth (Herrbold) VanDriest.  She graduated from Oostburg High School in 1963 and attended UW Oshkosh.  On April 25, 1970, she married David (Bill) Hopeman at the First Reformed Church in Hingham.

Mary was employed by Waldo State Bank for 17 years until her retirement.  She enjoyed playing volleyball and following all kinds of sports on TV.  In summer, you could find Mary tending to her garden at the house.  Mary and her mother were avid antique collectors and had an antique booth in Plymouth, WI where more antiques were probably purchased than sold.  Mary will always be remembered for her famous cheesy asparagus casserole, which was the holiday staple everyone looked forward to enjoying.

Mary is survived by her brother, Keith “Skip” (Carol) VanDriest, and two sisters-in-law, Harriet (Calvin) Jensema and Ann (Lyle) VerVelde.  She is further survived by her nieces, nephews, friends Karen and Judy, and special friends, Bob and Kay Wilterdink.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and parents-in-law Jesse and Esther Hopeman.

Mary will be honored by her family and friends in a graveside service at a later date for both her and her husband Bill at the Hingham Cemetery.

A memorial fund is being established in her name.

The staff of the Wenig Funeral Home of Oostburg (920-564-2771) is assisting Mary’s family with arrangements. For online condolences and additional information please visit www.wenigfh.com .
