Muriel Schreurs

October 17, 1931 — August 6, 2021

Cedar Grove

Muriel J. Schreurs, 89, of Cedar Grove, went home to her Lord and Savior, on Friday, August 6, 2021, at Aurora Grafton Medical Center.

Muriel Schreurs was born on October 17, 1931, in the Town of Holland, WI to Albert and Amy (Rushton) Schreurs on the farm that her Grandpa and Grandma Schreurs homesteaded after immigrating from the Netherlands. She lived on the homestead with her brother and sister her entire life.  She was a graduate of Cedar Grove High School. Muriel was employed at VandeWall Grocery Store in Cedar Grove for many years. The store was eventually sold to the Oras family for whom she worked until the store was closed. She then finished her career at Tolibia Cheese.

She was a lifelong member of Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove, where she taught Sunday School, was an active member of the Esther Society and the Women’s Missionary Society and helped with many events involving the kitchen using her gifts of hospitality.

Muriel enjoyed making jigsaw puzzles, cooking, reading, birdwatching, playing bingo and rook at the nursing home with friends. She was a faithful, hardworking woman, who went out of her way to be of service to others. She was a loving friend and neighbor who was a continual witness for her Lord.

Muriel is survived by her cousins, Howard (Nancy) Rushton and Robert Walvoort; dear friends, Dan & Leona Theune and Sharon & Allan Claerbaut; and many other extended family members and friends.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Amy; sister, Harriet Lillian Schruers; infant sister, Lillian Schreurs; brother, Lloyd Robert Schreurs; as well as many other relatives and close friends.

A celebration of life to honor Muriel and her sister, Harriet Schreurs,  who passed away during the pandemic in April of 2020, will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021, at 11:00 am at Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Cedar Grove with Rev. David Cornette officiating. Family and friends are welcome for a time of visitation from 9:30 am until the time of service at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be given in her name to Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church.

The family would like to extend their gratitude for the outstanding care that Cedar Grove Gardens provided Muriel and Harriet throughout the years, the many church family members and others who so faithfully called and visited them, and to Dan and Leona Theune for their gift of seasonal room decorating, helping with wardrobes, and providing continual reading material for Muriel and Harriet.
