Sue Arentsen

February 9, 1955 — June 6, 2022

Oostburg

Sue E. Arentsen, 67, went home to her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 6, 2022 at Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice surrounded by the love of her family.

Sue was born February 9, 1955 in the town of Lima to J. Paul and Marian (nee Mentink) Tempas. She graduated from Sheboygan Falls High School in 1973 and went on to study at UW Eau Claire with a double major in elementary education and special education. She worked in the Oostburg School District for 10 years. In 1996, she went back to school at NE Wisconsin Technical College where she studied dental hygiene, and worked as a hygienist in Sheboygan for 8 years.

On June 23, 1978 she was united in marriage with John Arentsen. The two shared 44 wonderful years together.

A lifelong member of Hingham Church, Sue taught Sunday School and was a youth group leader. She lived life to the fullest and enjoyed many interests and hobbies over the years including crafts, cooking, cake decorating, sewing, knitting, crocheting, sudoku puzzles and tropic vacations with her son and daughter-in-law. An avid gardener, Sue took great pride in her beautiful flower gardens. Later in life, Sue adopted a Papillon dog, Scarlet, and the two were loyal companions for many years.

Sue had a deep faith, deeply loved her family and friends, and considered her grandson Mason a special gift. She was joyful and kind, and will be remembered for her love, smile, uplifting spirit, and empathy for her many cancer comrades who she sent encouraging messages to until the very end.

Sue is survived by her husband John and their children: Nathan (Kris) Arentsen of West Bend and Liz (fiancé Jeremy Mireles) Arentsen of Oostburg. She is further survived by her grandson Mason Mireles; siblings: Ann (Dan) Kaat of Madison, Mary (Roland) Rauwerdink of Oostburg and David (Heather) Tempas of Sheboygan; siblings-in-law Marcia (Bernie) Van Roekel of IA, JoAnn (Jim) Woudstra of CO and Mark (Julie) Arentsen of Cedar Grove; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many close friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law Irwin and Margaret Arentsen, and brother-in-law Glenn Arentsen.

A Memorial Service celebrating Sue’s life will be held at 10:00AM on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Hingham Church. The family will receive visitors at the church on Friday, June 10 from 4:00-6:00PM and again on Saturday from 9:00-10:00AM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested in Sue’s name to Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice or Hingham Church.

The Arentsen family wishes to extend their appreciation to Dr. Matthews and his staff for many years of kindness and expert oncology treatment, and to the staff of Sharon S. Richardson Community Hospice for their compassionate and dedicated care.
